After a whirlwind 2022, the time has come to bid farewell to another year and get ready for the next as New Year’s Eve approaches.

While it may seem as though we were living inside of an iceberg ahead of Christmas, it looks like the new year will be rung in with decent weather. (Well, at least not -40 C, which is a good start.)

With that in mind, there are more than enough awesome events going on around Calgary to usher in the new year, but here are five Calgarians may be interested in.

Tea at Heritage Park

Heritage Park has added one more date on New Year’s Eve for its popular Holiday Tea event. Enjoy freshly brewed tea or a cup of warm apple cider along with an assortment of freshly baked goods from the Alberta Bakery, and gourmet finger sandwiches. Tickets to the event also include admission to Gasoline Alley Museum, one of the world’s largest public collections of antique vehicles, as well as a coupon to shop for products at the Haskayne Mercantile Block stores located in Heritage Town Square.

Zoolights: Zoo Year’s Eve

What better way to ring in the new year than with the incredible light displays at the Calgary Zoo/Wilder Institute? This year, organizers have scheduled New Year’s Eve events for everyone. For the family-friendly crowd, you’ll be able to enjoy all of the fun of Zoolights, with extra activities added in a fun festive way.

Where: Calgary Zoo/Wilder Institute

When: Dec. 31, 5-9 p.m.

Price: GA (16+) – $29.95 plus GST. Child (3-15) $27.95 plus GST. Infants (under three) get in free.

Zoo Year’s Eve Late Night (18+)

For the adults, hang out at the zoo until midnight. Organizers are adding an “extra special” light show with a ball drop and countdown at midnight. Zoo concessions will be open, or add a special celebration food or prosecco box.

If you are someone who isn’t into a traditional countdown and champagne celebration, the Calgary Flames will be hosting the Vancouver Canucks on New Year’s Eve. Head to Ticketmaster’s website for more information and to buy tickets to the game.

The Dungarees present Five Days in July: A Tribute to Blue Rodeo

Are you the kind of person who likes to celebrate New Year’s Eve with a great live show? If so, the legendary Calgary music venue the King Eddy will be hosting The Dungarees as they perform a tribute show to the celebrated Canadian band Blue Rodeo.

Award-winning Alberta band The Dungarees plans to bring a night of timeless music featured in Blue Rodeo’s 1993 album Five Days in July.

Tickets include a glass of champagne to ring in the new year with fellow concert-goers.

New Year’s Eve 2022: Civic celebration

The City of Calgary will be launching fireworks from the top of the Calgary Tower, accompanied by a soundtrack from CJSW 90.9 FM, featuring Canadian artists DJ Shub, The Corey Hotline, Sureshock & MIss Fudge, the Arkells, Coeur de Pirate, Aly & AJ and Caity Gyorgy.

While no formal event is planned, Calgarians can watch the fireworks from Olympic Plaza, or from home with the city’s livestream. The skating rink at the plaza will also be open from 10 a.m. to midnight.
