Lehigh Valley trio leads Nebraska to Wrangle Mania at Liberty High School

Five of the nation’s top NCAA Division I wrestling programs are coming next week to the Lehigh Valley as part of Journeymen Wrestling’s Wrangle Mania.

It takes place Nov. 12, at Liberty High School’s Memorial Gym.

“Liberty High School and the entire Lehigh Valley wrestling community are thrilled to be a part of bringing top notch nationally ranked Division I wrestling duals to the Lehigh Valley,” Liberty athletic director Fred Harris said. “Strong high school wrestling is a part of who we are here in the Valley and Memorial Gymnasium is its Cathedral.

“To host so many highly regarded collegiate teams in the same place where so many state and national champions have passed before in their high school years is a treat for the local wrestling fans and tip of the cap to the hallowed hall of Liberty’s Memorial Gymnasium. Over the summer, Frank Popoluzio contacted me from Journeymen Wrestling to seek out bringing one of his collegiate events to Liberty. Memorial Gymnasium, with all its rich history, was the preferred destination, and we are thrilled to be a part of it.”

The dual meet format welcomes No. 3-ranked Arizona State, No. 8 Nebraska, No. 9 North Carolina State, No. 17 Lehigh and No. 22 Rutgers. Others participating: Army, Buffalo, Lock Haven, Long Island, Oklahoma and Sacred Heart.

There are no guarantees about who will be in the 11 teams’ lineups, but here are five things to know:

Two-time PIAA champion and Bethlehem Catholic graduate Mikey Labriola, right, is a senior at Nebraska.
