Just as the Nets and Irving looked to better their performances from last season, the former Rookie of the Year has found himself amidst a major controversy yet again.

He posted the link to a highly controversial anti-semitic film on his Twitter. The NBA and the Brooklyn Nets owner put out official statements condemning Irving’s stance. Moreover, Deni Avdija, who happens to be the only Jewish player in the league has spoken out.

Avdija said, “I think there needs to be consequences for the actions that a player [does]. I don’t know the punishment that the league gives but I think that needs to be known that there’s no room for words like that.”

Avdija put out his thoughts about Irving in the open after the match between the Wizards and the Nets. Interestingly enough, this was the first game for the Nets without Irving.

The team has suspended him for at least five games without pay for his aforementioned actions. In the absence of one of their biggest superstars, the Nets went on to win the game 128-86. Kevin Durant stepped up with 28 points, 11 assists, and 9 rebounds to help his team get the win.
