NBA Summer League: Council, 76ers fall to OKC

Arkansas basketball fans on Thursday did not get the former Razorback head-to-head matchup in NBA Summer League action they hoped for.

Ricky Council and the Philadelphia 76ers fell 100-91 to Jaylin Williams and the Oklahoma City Thunder in both teams’ final game at Salt Lake City Summer League, but Williams did not play. The former Arkansas forward did not dress out due to an injury/illness, according to the box score.

Council, who had 13 points with 5 assists and 3 blocks on Wednesday, finished with 8 points on 2 of 8 from the field, 2 rebounds and 2 assists in the loss. He missed both of his three-point attempts and made 4 of 5 shots at the free throw line.

Council committed four turnovers in 26:35 in the lineup.

The wing’s first bucket of the game came in the second quarter on a layup through contact. The score and free throw cut the 76ers’ deficit to 54-29 with 3:25 left in the half.

Council scored five of his eight points in the fourth quarter on three free throws and an eight-foot turnaround jumper that cut Oklahoma City’s lead to 91-82 with 4:39 remaining.

He averaged 11 points in three games in Salt Lake City. Council and the 76ers will now head to Las Vegas for four Summer League games, beginning with the New York Knicks on Saturday at 4 p.m. on NBA TV.

Williams’ and Oklahoma City’s first game in Las Vegas is Saturday against the Dallas Mavericks. It is set for 2:30 p.m. on ESPN2.
