NFL training camp begins, MLB winners and wild

How can it be that the NFL training camps are ready to get rolling?

The Detroit Lions come into the 2023 training camp with high expectations for the first time in what seems like decades. The rookies report on July 19, and the veterans report on July 22. What will look different this year for the Lions?

The most glaring upgrade came in the secondary with the additions of Cameron Sutton, Emmanuel Mosely and C.J. Gardner-Johnson. Let’s be brutally honest, the secondary stunk last season, and an upgrade was needed to improve the secondary.

The running game will look different this season with the addition of David Montgomery and draft pick Jahmyr Gibbs. The loss of Jamaal Williams to New Orleans and D’Andre Swift to the Philadelphia Eagles should not affect the running game in my opinion.

I can tell you my eyes will be on linebacker Jack Campbell from Iowa and tight end Sam Laporta from Iowa — two top draft picks by Detroit. I am super stoked about the Detroit Lions in 2023. Let’s get training camp started!

The National League finally defeated the American League in the All-Star game snapping a long losing streak. I want to look at all the divisions and give you my winners and wild card teams.

The National League West will go to the L.A. Dodgers as I see Arizona fading along with San Francisco. The Dodgers are playing great baseball right now.

The National League Central is a two-team race between the Milwaukee Brewers and Cincinnati Reds. I will side with the Milwaukee Brewers to win the Central Division. I will say it will go down to the wire in late September.

The National League East is the Atlanta Braves in a runaway. The Atlanta Braves are the best team in baseball right now.

The American League East winner will be the Baltimore Orioles as they will pass the Tampa Bay Rays. I absolutely love the Baltimore Orioles pitching and hitting as they are the shocker of the 2023 season so far.

I believe the Texas Rangers, who can hit like crazy, will hold off the Houston Astros to win the West Division.

The American League Central — the Minnesota Twins win by default, because the rest of the division stinks.

I think the Tigers will finish in fourth place as the Chicago White Sox will pass them eventually.

The wildcard teams from the National League will be the Cincinnati Reds, Miami Marlins and the Philadelphia Phillies.

The American League wildcard teams will be the Tampa Bay Rays, Toronto Blue Jays and Houston Astros. The 2023 baseball season will have fantastic finishes come late September, and then it’s October baseball!

The face of the Northwestern Wildcat football program, Pat Fitzgerald, has been fired by Northwestern. The allegations of football hazing surfaced, and it was too much for Northwestern to retain Pat Fitzgerald. I can tell you Pat Fitzgerald took Northwestern to respectability as a player and as a coach. However, the days of hazing in the athletic world are a thing of the past. I liked coach Fitzgerald, but he crossed the line, and it cost him his job.

The Detroit Red Wings made a large move acquiring Alex DeBrincat from the Ottawa Senators. Alex, only 25-years-old is a goal scorer and a great addition to the Red Wings roster. I think he will put up big numbers for the Red Wings next season. I love this move made by Stevie Yzerman!
